Seattle Worldcon 2025: Building Yesetrday's Future--For Everyone
I will be attending, appearing on programming, and for the first time (maybe the only time in my life?) being a Hugo Award Finalist (in Best Related Work, as co-author with Camestros Felapton of "Charting The Cliff: An Investigation Into the 2023 Hugo Nomination Statistics").
Horrible Histories: A Way to Make Learning about History Fun (Room 343-344)
A discussion about shows, podcasts, and other media that help make learning about history fun. After all, it isn’t just lists of numbers and names! How do you take that dry text and make it engaging enough to reach an audience that isn’t necessarily interested in history?
Medieval Characters—Women Authors (Room 420-422)
A look at the legacy and influence of Marjorie Kemp, Christine de Pisan, Marie de France, Hildegard of Bingen, the anchorite Julian of Norwich, and more. Their works continue to have relevance today.
Autographs (Garden Lounge (3F))
In addition to whatever books you bring, I will have books available for purchase (and signing), as well as some freebies. It's also a chance to know where I'll be at a specific time if you just want to say hi.
Conlangs 101: How to Get Started Making Your Own Language (Room 322)
Building language goes beyond just putting funny sounds together or making a word that looks cool. Learn what’s needed to make a basic constructed language and how to find the resources and tools to get started in language creation.
Table Talk (Room 427)
Have an intimate discussion (up to six participants) with your favorite creators. Advance signup is required.
Hugo Awards Ceremony (Convention Center Ballroom 1)
As far as I'm concerned, being named a finalist is an amazing achievement and recognition. I prefer not to speculate on anything more. (Though of course I have a speech ready, just in case.) All of the finalists in my category are amazing and I would be proud to see any of them win.
